Spring Plant Reset
There’s something about the first stretch of warm weather that makes you want to open every window, deep clean your home, and suddenly become the best plant parent that’s ever lived. Same.
Spring is a natural reset point full of new beginnings and growth. Not just for people, but for our plants too. After a slower winter season, your plants are waking up and getting ready to grow again. The good news? You don’t need to do anything complicated to support them.
Here’s what actually matters right now:
1. Light Changes Everything
As the days get longer and brighter, your plants are getting more natural light.
Take a minute to observe:
Are some plants suddenly getting direct sun?
Are others stuck in a darker corner?
This is the time to gently reposition. Even moving a plant a few feet can make a big difference.
2. Your Watering Routine Needs an Update
If you listened to me and have been watering less over the winter, it’s time to adjust. Plants are starting to grow again and awaken from their winter sleep. It is now the time to water more frequently.
Instead of sticking to a strict schedule, check your soil more often. You can use your finger, a moisture meter, or a chopstick! Think of it less like a routine and more like a check-in. At the shop, we do our watering check-in every Saturday.
3. This Is Your Repotting Window
If you’ve had a plant in the same pot for a year or more, or your plant is looking a little sad, Spring is your moment.
Signs it might be ready:
Roots growing out of the drainage hole/bottom of the pot
Soil drying out way too fast
Water runs through the soil immediately when watered. The soil is not absorbing the water.
Growth has slowed or stalled
Fresh soil = fresh nutrients = a much happier plant.
4. Clean Up the Winter Damage and check for pests
Yellow leaves? Crispy edges? A little sad-looking overall?
Totally normal. We all had a hard winter.
Go ahead and trim back anything that didn’t survive winter. This helps your plant redirect energy into new, healthy growth.
While you are at it, spray the plant down with a preventative pest spray such as diluted neem oil.
5. You Don’t Have to Do Everything at Once
This is your gentle reminder (because we all need it): You don’t need a full plant overhaul day, unless you want to! Start with one plant. Then another. It’s not that deep.
Spring is about momentum into a new, brighter season. If you’ve been feeling a little disconnected from your plants over the winter, this is your invitation to step back in without guilt, no pressure.
And if you’re not sure where to start, come hang out with us in the shop. We’ll figure it out together
